What brought you to astrology?

I have been interested in astrology since my young ages. In 1996, I had my natal chart drawn by hand and tried to interpret it through the help of a book. Later, I found that paper that I wrote my notes on my natal chart. During this time, I was working in trade business and there was no specific event in my life. After my father’s death in 1997, I started to question life and to devote more time to astrology. My father wanted me to continue our family business while I wanted to study astronomy. Although I tried to do my best to continue our family business, because of my growing interest in astrology I left trade business as of June 200, rent our place and took a step towards being involved in astrology fulltime.

Why do you practice astrology? What makes it juicy for you?

I have always been interested in questions like “Why are we here?”, “What is our purpose?” and “What are our given talents?” I enjoyed realizing fated impacts and wondered how the whole system works because I believed that everything in the divine system was perfect and nothing was a coincident. I believe in fate but I also know that we have free will. We have a certain fate and we reach certain results when we do not make efforts to change it. However, to the extend we may make choices, we have the chance to realize our ideal destiny through these choices. It is the power for reaching the most ideal through a making better choices and awareness, instead of going with the flow. Telling and teaching people about it was what made astrology juicy for me. After understanding my own chart and life purpose, I saw that I was here to practice astrology, to teach it and to write about it and I took my steps decisively to perform my life purpose.

What is your specialty, or focus?

My specialty is Medieval Astrology. In fact, I practice Classical, Medieval and Renaissance astrology techniques under the title of Traditional Astrology. What I am trying to do is to blend the traditional astrology with the modern astrology. So, I teach all techniques to the students in my school and I also invite other lecturers. For example, Glenn Perry teaches Astro Psychology and Aleksandar Imsiragic teaches Hermetic Astrology online. I also teach my students modern techniques like Mid Points and Harmonics in addition to tradition techniques. We also study Ottoman Astrology and Sufism and Astrology. We are working on the translation of a 550 pages work of Sadullah Efendi, an Ottoman astrologer from the 19^th century and we discover many interesting information. I also started to focus on that.

Is there a planet, sign, or aspect you’ve been exploring lately that represents an archetype or energy that feels important to you right now?

Due to my interest in Hermes Trismegistus, I am attracted to Mercury. Additionally, although I think hard aspects are motivating and necessary, trine is my favorite. For example, in my chart Mercury-Sun conjunction is in trine with Jupiter. Sometime I would draw the symbol of Sun-Jupiter trine on my worksheets. It was a kind of affirmation for me to overcome the difficulties I had once in my life.  

What is your picture of astrology in the future?

I believe astrology will have a good future. I think that Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in the first degree of Aquarius represents the beginning of a new era. I expect acceptance, support and at least a more objective approach in scientific field. In our country, there is a growing interest in astrology and many people are attending to astrology courses. When I started teaching astrology in 2005, I only had 16 students. As of July 2017, this number increased to 921. This is a huge increase indeed. Some of our student began to become members of several international astrology organizations. We are expanding and will continuously expand in the near future.

Are there any additional comments you would like to make about your lecture and workshop?

In my lecture, I will be talking about the Time Lords which is a curcial subject in Traditional Astrology. It is not known enough in today’s astrology but it should be considered carefully while working with transits and secondary progressions. In my workshop, I will focus on Profections, which is a very important prediction technique in Traditional Astrology. Through sample charts, I will help attendants see how important and efficient profections are. It is one of the prediction techniques that I rely and use often.  

If you discovered a new planet, or asteroid, what would you name it and why?

Actually, I would name it at the very moment I discover it. It would reflect the quality of that moment. If I discovered it right now, I would call it “Şi’ra” due to the Sun-Sirius conjunction that takes place now. It is told that Sirius is Şi’ra which is mentioned in the 49^th verse of the sura named Necm (The Star) in the Holy Quran.
