How many times have we looked at a chart and thought, “Oh no!” when we see a Mars-Saturn square or an upcoming Pluto conjunction to someone’s natal Sun? What about a natal planet in an afflicted House? In its detriment or fall? A combust planet? And what about retrogrades? Are trines really better than squares? And how does the fate versus free will paradox impact these issues? Join Rick Levine for a new look at an old topic as he explores the origins of negative astrological judgments, the tendency to project fear into a chart or into the future, and strategies for transforming potential liabilities into our greatest assets.

A Deep Dive into Working with Aspects:
Integrating Harmonic Aspects in Natal Chart Interpretation
Most astrologers agree that natal chart interpretation is based upon the integration of planets, signs, houses, and aspects. Like Johannes Kepler, I believe that aspects are the most significant of these fundamentals. Although Kepler suggested we could eliminate the use of the zodiac entirely, that is an extreme position I do not share. Nevertheless, modern astrology is moving toward a deep reevaluation of aspects, including the integration of non-Ptolemaic aspects, including semisquares, sesquisquares, quincunxes, semisextiles. Additionally, the quintile, septile, novile, and eleventile series of aspects reveal hidden layers of meaning in chart interpretation. Join Rick for an eye-opening exploration of the brave new world of these non-physical aspects. Using plenty of example charts, including the charts of class participants, learn why these aspects are not “minor” aspects, how to easily spot powerful harmonic resonance in charts, and how a new approach to aspects can enrich our readings.

The next Venus Retrograde cycle in Aries-Pisces (March 1-April 12) signifies a major intent to review what needs to be released in life and how we choose to create anew. It will also mark the Heliacal rising of Venus in Pisces (29°) for the first time in a century. Venus will make a three-peat passage from 24° Pisces to 11° Aries, interacting with both Saturn and Neptune finishing up their transits through Pisces and starting new cycles in Aries. On top of that, Mercury joins the chorus with its own retrograde cycle March14/15-April 7 from 9° Aries to 26° Pisces. Both the Venus and Mercury Rx cycles will have three aspects with the Pisces-Virgo Nodal Axis, and the 1° Aries point of the 2026 Saturn-Neptune conjunction. Whew! Come explore what all this means for us on both a personal and humanitarian level.

Astrology has a long history of citing how to find and cope with enemies, from the writings of Hellenistic and Islamicate astrologers to how, even in modern texts, we have the 7th and 12th houses listed as indications for public and hidden enemies, respectively. Many of us might claim that we don’t have any enemies, but what might our charts tell us about them, if we do? What does it mean to have an enemy? And can we use our charts to make our enemies our friends as Abraham Lincoln says, “Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?”
