A generation of astrologers now are familiar with the basic doctrines of Hellenistic astrology, yet many are still at a loss as to how to translate planetary condition into meaningful interpretations about a person’s life. When you see something that is “bad” from a traditional perspective, are you able to reframe the information in a way that does not throw the person into a state of despair, while still being true to the chart?
How do we transition back and forth during the course of a reading or even in understanding our own charts between being a Hellenistic astrologer making an objective judgment about a planet’s condition and having the sensibilities and language of a contemporary astro-counselor.
In this practical day-long workshop, we will take charts from the audience and identify difficult planetary conditions from a Hellenistic perspective. Then we will give guidelines for interpretation in order to address the issues of the psyche, of relationships, and of life purpose within the context and challenges of modern times.

Demetra George, scholar, translator, and practitioner, brings the practice of contemporary astrology back to its ancient roots. Early in her career with the publication of Asteroid Goddesses (1986), she looked to cross-cultural mythologies to draw out the archetypal meanings and psychological expression of newly available planetary bodies. She then turned to Greek and Latin texts, articulating the history, cosmology, and techniques of traditional astrology. Author of seven books, her most recent is Ancient Astrology in Theory and Practice: A Manual of Traditional Techniques, Vols. 1 &2 (Rubedo Press, 2019,2022).
