What brought you to astrology?
About a year into accelerated growth initiated by a dark night of the soul, the principle question shifted from “how can I heal this?” to “how can I best help others heal?” Truthfully, I didn’t know I went to Peru in 2012 to get initiated into astrology. I thought I was on a path that would train me in a rather different modality. But the plants taught me about planets. And. Ow the planets teach me about harmony.
Why do you practice astrology? What makes it juicy for you?
I love astrology, first and foremost, because she opens wide windows of feeling, healing, knowing, and growing are opened when we choose to travel her heavenly highways as a way in rather than as a way out. I am ever grateful for the gifts she gives, which help me know myself and which help me help others to know themselves.
And because, she just freaks me out! I mean, how can this thing even work? I love astrology because she’s an enigma and because she offers the opportunity for lifelong study of the mysteries.
What is your specialty, or focus?
My principle devotion is to help astrologers learn to see the chart in the sky and the sky in the chart because I know a living connection to the night sky quickly connects each astrologer to their own starry stream and because the rationalists are squeezing the sacred out of astronomy, which is a terrifying thing. While lab coat astronomers today seek answers by looking through tiny tubes at spaces long ago and far away, I train myself and anyone who will join me to observe the starry secrets through the lens of our eyes. We re-member the roots of the rules and the proofs of the astrological equations we use when we look up to the sky and widen our gaze.
While Sacred Astronomy and her sister sciences of geometry, harmony, and number magic are at the root of all of my pursuits, my focus fluctuates frequently. For most of this (9th House profection under lockdown) year I’ve been in a deep study of traveling without moving through integrating and teaching the philosophy and techniques of AstroLocality. This has become a specialty of mine as has the Wheel Turning techniques I’m excited to share with WSAA.
Is there a planet, sign, or aspect you’ve been exploring lately that represents an archetype or energy that feels important to you right now?
I’ve been consciously courting Black Moon Lilith and the Lunar Nodes, which is to say I’m deepening my relationship with all things Moon.
What is your picture of astrology in the future?
I see a return to the mystery traditions that will facilitate a more embodied experience of our craft. I see astrologers around the globe serving as nodes of a web that is woven to celebrate the marriage of Heaven and Earth through synchronized ceremony. Wouldn’t something most magical happened if everyone of us held at the moon or sun in the same moment?
Are there any additional comments you would like to make about your lecture and workshop?
I’ll be turning 45 exactly 2 weeks after the workshop and my Ascendant will then profect to my 10th Sign from my 9th where my MidHeaven lives. As always, the big question is, “did I choose this topic or did this topic choose me?” Perhaps we’ll solve that riddle. No promises there, but I can promise that you’ll leave the presentation knowing the phrase “I’ll be turning 45” is a literal linguistic descendent of this ancient astrological timing technique we now call profecting the Ascendant.
If you discovered a new planet, or asteroid, what would you name it and why?
It would really depend upon when and where I discovered this planet and what its astronomical signatures were. If I discovered a planet in this moment, I think I’d go with something we desolately need like Wakanka, which is Lakota for “elderly woman” and refers to:
Anúŋğite- The two-faced Spirit referred to as mother of the Four Winds, Yum the Whirlwind, and the daughter of the Pȟežúta (Medicine Men) Ka and Wa. She is also known as Wakanka, the elderly woman. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Lakota_deities?wprov=sfti1)
